Using fluid cleaners as an alternative only removes the surface dust. The antistatic gun is a anticipatory method. It shoots a stream of electrically charged atoms onto the vinyl record surface, neutralizing static electricity which would otherwise attract dust. Antistatic cloths are not very effective, and often a waste of money. But then again each vinyl record collector has their own method for cleaning their prize vinyl records, therefore, to each his own!
