House of Joy!!

Vinyl Records Collector Dog Picture

The sound systems then consisted of a valve amplifier ranging from 500watts to 1000 or more watts with a turntable and two or four speaker boxes as large as a double door wardrobe (given the name  house of joy) for playing in competition with other sound systems to determine who was the champion sound of the area.

This was decided by the crowd and followers. I know because I was there too! A few years later Prince Buster had his own sound system known as "The Voice of The People." From the 1950’s onwards the 45 rpm 7" singles became the collector’s favourite all over the world. As for me, I much prefer to collect vinyl LP’s and the 12inch 45 singles, value for money and much easier to handle.
